Web Design for
Small Businesses that give a shit*

I design websites for mission-based companies who genuinely care about other people and the planet, and who sell things that make a difference and don’t cause harm.

I design websites for mission-based companies who genuinely care about other people and the planet, and who sell things that make a difference and don’t cause harm.

Listen, I know that your current website has gotten you this far.

Whether you DIY’d it, used a template, or hired your best friend’s brother who said he could figure it out, what you have now is fine.

But things that really make a difference in people’s lives — and you’ve already proven you do — are rarely described as fine.

Whether you’re providing a service that helps people in their biggest time of need, or maybe you make a product that stands the test of time and lasts generations, you’re making a positive impact in this dumpster fire of a world.

Your business deserves a white-glove level website that matches the quality of your products and services … not one that feels like you bought it at IKEA and had to assemble it yourself while questioning all your life choices.

Plus, if you add one more thing to your to-do list (especially a project as big as a new website), it’s going to collapse under the crushing weight of your unrealistic expectations.

It’s time to delegate and trust someone else to create a digital masterpiece that fully represents your company and mission, looks like something worth paying attention to, and grows your bottom line, too.

My web design process + what’s included

The Whole WWW

The Whole WWW

Starting at $5,000 Canadian | Projects last 4+ weeks

01

Step 1

Step 1

Deep Dive Website Strategy Session

Deep Dive Website Strategy Session

1

Before we even get started, we’ll spend a half day together sharing all the details about your business — your problems, current results, existing brand assets, future goals, and everything in between.

Then, I’ll do oodles of research on your competitors, as well as some basic SEO research to determine your opportunities. From there, I’ll develop your sitemap and curate specific website and brand inspiration based strategically on your goals.

Your complete Website Strategy will be delivered to you as a beautifully detailed PDF document with an accompanying overview video.

In the Website Strategy PDF, I’ll include a full project proposal based on all the information included in the PDF. This way, we’ll both know exactly what you do and don’t need for your unique business and goals instead of putting you into some cookie cutter framework that won’t get you where you want to go.

02

Step 2

Step 2

Project Prep

Project Prep

2

After you accept the project proposal, you’ll choose a time slot from my calendar. I only work on one web design project at a time, so you’ll get 100% of my focus for the entirety of the project.

Once you choose your dates, I’ll get all the boring stuff ready like the contract and project hub.

You (or the person on your team who you’re designating in your place) will now need to invest some time getting your assets ready (like brand photos, existing visual branding, etc) and answering any outstanding questions I might have after our Deep Dive Website Strategy Session.

Depending on the scope of our project, I might take the reins on all or some of this, it just depends on what your budget is and what we’ve agreed to include.

Step 3

Step 3

Let’s Get This Party Started

Let’s Get This Party Started

3

Once your project start date comes, I’m all in! Each project varies in terms of its scope and required services, and you’ll know exactly how long each project phase will take from the contract you signed before we started.

For each phase, I put my head down, do research, collect data, marinate on it, and then present you with my recommendations using recorded overview videos. I share all the information I considered when making my recommendation, and then you provide feedback.

We won’t move forward to the next phase until you are completely comfortable with and fully approve of each decision.

A web design project might have some or all of the following phases:

  • Visual brand identity (if you don’t already have one you love)

  • SEO target keyword research

  • Brand photoshoot (if needed)

  • Copywriting and copy editing (with one of my recommended copywriters or your own)

  • High-fidelity website mock-ups

  • Website development (i.e. actually building it)

  • SEO implementation on the website

  • Website testing

  • Tech tutorial videos

  • Do the damn thing and officially launch your shiny new website!

Website Panic Button

Website Panic Button

While I record easy-to-follow tech tutorial videos so you or your team members can make changes to your website, there might be some questions that come up or other related things we forgot to take care of during the project.

Don’t worry, I got you!

Your project will include 30 days of free support so we can make sure your website is working flawlessly and everything is tickety-boo (that’s British for alright).

If you need more support in the future for things such as adding new pages, making large changes to existing pages, or want to work on a new SEO or content strategy, past clients can book half or full VIP Days with me.

You’ll be in great company as I generally work with my past clients at least once a year to make changes as their business grows and evolves.

Are we a good fit?

What can I say? I have high standards and I know you do, too.

I’m the web designer for your small business if:

You know what you believe in, and you’re not afraid to stand out and ruffle a few feathers in your industry.

I’m not for you if:

You can’t handle a swear word or two — or five. When I’m talking about something I’m passionate about, I say fuck a lot. And you sure as hell want me to be passionate about your business if we’re working together.

You just want something surface level and “pretty”. Yes, your website will be gorgeous when we’re finished, but it will also include about 50 strategically-based features that will grow your bottom line.

Love from clients

My clients are the best, and it looks like the feeling is mutual:

Hiring Ashley for a rebrand and site build in 2022 was in the top five decisions I've ever made in my business.

“Her taste, her skill, her eye for detail and visual design—she's one-of-a-kind, not to mention, a fun, organized, and inspiring person to work with. Thanks in no small part to her, my business revenue has increased 10X in the last three years, as we've moved from a six-figure company to a seven-figure company...and continue to grow!”

— Mary Adkins, Author and Writing Coach

We are already getting submissions from literary agents and published authors - not just debut authors - and that is virtually unheard of for a press as new as we are.

“This website turned out better than I even dreamed - and I had high expectations. I appreciated how Ashley kept asking questions and listening to me when she didn't quite get my quirky vision - and then ultimately ran with it and turned it into something even better. Letting Ashley do her thing is definitely what gives her work spark - and then her extreme thoroughness, organization, and effective communication just make the whole process a breeze. Far and above the best web design experience I've ever had.

— Alle Mudrick, Founder of Third Rail Press

Revenue has increased, my confidence has increased, and I have a new champion for life!

“Ashley goes above and beyond, she has delivered creatively, consistently and before time at every stage of every project we’ve worked on together. Her website tweaks and changes 2 years after the initial build of my current site have resulted in a higher weekly pay for me as CEO, and allowed us to add 3 more teachers, and 4 more classes to our schedule. Can’t wait to share our future wins, and be guided and supported in our future growth.”

— Kellie Brett, Founder of myoga Studio

Frequently Asked Questions:

How much are your services?

My website design services depend on your unique business wants and needs. I only make recommendations that will help you grow your business while keeping your strategies in line with your brand, and the number of assets and scope for each business can be vastly different. While it's hard to answer this question without knowing more, my services start at $5,000 Canadian.

How do I know if I’m ready to work with you?

Woah, that's a loaded question! There's a wide range of reasons you might be ready for a new brand and website, including: - You want to raise your prices - You want to increase conversion - You can feel it in your bones that your current brand and website isn't "it" - You're outgrown your current brand and website and are ready to uplevel These are just some of the reasons a business will invest in a new brand and website. If you're questioning whether you're ready for a new brand and/or website, why not download my offer guide to get an idea of what a new brand and website can do for your business? It never hurts to gather new information and make plans for the future!

How long does a new website take?

It depends on how many assets you need, your goals, and how large your business is. You also need to add on the time it will take you to prepare for the project and collect all the different things you’ll need for your new, head-turning website, such as: - Copywriting - Brand Strategy - Photography It’s possible that during the research and strategy phase, I’ll recommend that your branding be updated, too. Expect a new website to take at least 6 weeks, and larger projects could take 3-4 months.

What do I need before we start?

You don't necessarily need anything! If you're coming in with existing brand assets, such as visual branding, photography, and copywriting, we'll review everything to make sure it will work to achieve your goals. And if you don't have any of those things, that's almost better because we can start from scratch and design those brand assets with no attachment to past work that may have been very expensive but doesn’t quite fit. We'll take inventory during our Deep Dive Website Strategy Session and make an educated and strategic decision on what you need and what to let go of.

Are your services for beginners?

They can be ... depending on what your experience and budget is. I generally work better with entrepreneurs with a little more experience and expertise under their belt, as well as those who have a validated product or service idea (i.e. not total newbies). I find that with more experience comes more clarity and a willingness to consider strategic recommendations. Also, because of my experience and proven results, my services can be a little more expensive than others. I work best with business owners who understand just how much growth and revenue can be generated from a confident, stand-out website. That being said, you might be new to your current business but have past experience that allows you to look at recommendations through strategic eyes, and be willing to invest funds in your brand and website from personal or other business sources.

What website platforms do you build on?

I have over a decade of experience building websites on Squarespace, including extensive customization using CSS and Javascript. Due to changes at Squarespace over the years, I also build websites on Framer. Each platform has its pros and cons, and the platform we ultimately choose together will be based on your particular business needs and wants. You’ll make an informed choice after learning all the information, and not just picking a platform because that’s what [insert famous entrepreneur] is using.

Do you only work with small businesses?

Absolutely not! While I usually do, I’m totally open to working with businesses of all shapes and sizes. As long as you’re good people* doing great things*, reach out and let’s get the conversation started. *Good people = people who give a shit about other people and the planet *Great things = selling products or providing services that make a difference, don’t cause harm, and are actually useful
